 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

TUESDAY JUNE 02, 2026.

SUBJECT: RESIST SATAN'S TEMPTATION AND LIES!

Memory verse: “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own:resources, for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (John 8 vs 44.)

READ: Genesis 3 vs 1 - 6:

3:1: Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’

3:2: And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3:3: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

3:4: Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

3:5: For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

3:6: So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her; and he ate.

INTIMATION:

Temptations, in my considered opinion, are lies of the devil to us aimed at deceiving us into doubting God’s integrity regarding His good thoughts for us. It’s also Satan’s invitation to give in to his kind of life (a life of rebellion against God’s authority), and give up on God’s kind of life. Satan tempted Eve along this line and succeeded in getting her to sin. Ever since then, he has been busy getting people to sin. He even tempted Jesus (Matthew 4 vs 1 - 11). But Jesus did not sin.

Our loving Father will never leave us; that is His promise to us. But the enemy of our souls wants us to doubt God and to question His ability. Obviously if one tells a big enough lie long enough, people would believe it. And this undoubtedly, is the trick the father of lies, Satan, has used from the beginning of human history.

In the Garden of Eden our first parents were set up to live happily ever after, having been placed in a paradise-like setting by a loving, personal God. They had been given everything they could ever want, virtually everything on the earth and all it had, but with only one small restriction: "Don't eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." We easily say today, 'What a simple innocuous request and easy to obey.'

Satan tempted Eve with his lies, and got her to doubt God’s goodness. He implied that God was strict, stingy, and selfish for not wanting Eve to share His knowledge of good and evil. Satan made Eve forget all that God had given her, and instead, focus on the only thing God had forbidden. We also fall into trouble, too, when we dwell on what God forbids or has not given us, rather than on the countless blessings and promises God has given us.

But when she was enticed by the Tempter, she fell into his trap of questioning the love and goodness of the One from whom they had only experienced good. What a monstrous lie. But she bought it hook, line and sinker and lured her husband into it as well! And since then mankind has been wretched ever since, but for God's intervention with His love and saving grace through the gift of His Son to the world!

Satan has not relented in his work of tempting us till date. Some do fall into his temptations and make the same mistakes today. Some willingly swallow the lie that they cannot trust our Heavenly Father. They allow such things as the lure of pleasurable living, our earthly hurts from parents or others, feelings, emotions, fears, and human experience to effectively block a clean perception of God, to distrust our view and understanding of Him.

How could Eve have resisted temptation? By following the Scriptural guidelines, which are also available to us to follow. First, we must realize that being tempted is not a sin. We have not sinned until we give in to the temptation. Then, to resist temptation, we must (1) pray for strength to resist, (2) run, sometimes literally, and (3) say no when confronted with what we know is wrong. The Scriptures tell of the blessings and rewards for those who don’t give in when tempted, it says, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.’ (James 1 vs 12.),

People usually choose wrong things because they have become convinced by the devil, contrary to God’s view, that those things are good, at least for themselves. Our sins do not always appear ugly to us, and the pleasant sins are the hardest to avoid. So prepare yourself for the attractive temptations that the devil may bring your way. We cannot always prevent temptation, but there is always a way of escape (First Corinthians 10 vs 13). Use God’s Word and God’s people to help you stand against it.

Now, notice what Eve did: She looked, she took, she ate, and she gave. The battle is often lost at the first look. Temptation often begins by simply seeing something you want. Are you struggling with temptation because you have not learned that looking is the first step toward sin. You would win over temptation more often if you follow the apostle Paul’s advice to run from those things that produce evil thoughts (Second Timothy 2 vs 22). Literally running away from such is the most effective way to avoid temptations, because you may not have developed the willpower to overcome temptation when you stay put.

Prayer: Abba Father, give me the grace to resist the lies of the devil, and commit myself to the truth in Your Word at all times and in all circumstances of life, in Jesus Name I have prayed, Amen.

PRAISE THE LORD!
