SUBJECT : FAITH IS A POTENT FORCE!

Memory verse: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God, must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." (Hebrews 11 vs 6.)

READ: Hebrews 10 vs 19 - 23:

10:19: Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 

10:20: by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,

10:21: and having a High Priest over the house of God,

10:22: let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

10:23: Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

INTIMATION:

Building up your faith is a prerequisite for effectual communication with God. Faith is a potent force without which prayer will be absolutely unproductive. The Bible calls faith "The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11 vs 1.) You are holding in confidence the things you have asked in prayers, and perceiving as real facts what is not revealed to the senses. It is the ticket on which you take delivery of anything from heaven.

Your confidence in God must first be in place before you ask Him for anything, because though His Word presented before Him grants you audience in the Throne Room, your faith in Him (in His Word) is what motivates Him to act on your behalf. Therefore, it is you, not God, who determines whether your prayer gets answered or not. Though ‘He is ready to perform His Word’ (Jeremiah 1 vs 12), He demands your faith that leads to a personal, dynamic relationship with Him.

You don't only approach God with His Word, you must come with an unwavering assurance that ‘He abides faithful and cannot deny Himself’ (Second Timothy 2 vs 13). Therefore, your approach to the Throne Room must be with unwavering faith. The Scripture in James 1 vs 6 - 7, says, "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord." Once your faith and trust in God is established, you can rest assured of results when you pray. You will not only believe in the existence of God, but also believe in His loving care. That is relying on God with full expectations that He will hear and answer when you pray.

In Matthew 9, two blind men prayed to Jesus for the restoration of their sight. Even though Jesus heard them, He did not heal them until He was assured of their faith in Him: "When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, "Son of David, have mercy on us!" And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him, and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this? They said unto Him. Yes, Lord. Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be to you." And their eyes were opened...." (Matthew 9 vs 27 - 30.)

Jesus didn't respond immediately to the blind men's pleas. He waited to see if they had faith. They followed Him all through to the house, pleading with Him to heal them, and that shows believe and commitment. Not everyone who says he wants help really believes God can help him. Jesus may have waited and questioned these men to emphasize and increase their faith. When you think that God is too slow in answering your prayers, consider that He might be testing you as He did the blind men.

Jesus, by His death and offering of His blood in atonement for our sins, has made it possible for us to approach God in the Throne Room directly. We must come not halfheartedly or with improper motives or pretense, but with pure, individual, and sincere worship in faith. We can know that we have “a true heart” If we evaluate our thoughts and motives according to His Word. Christians can approach God boldly, free from our “evil conscience” and in full assurance because of the work Jesus Christ did for us in redemption.

Under the new covenant of accepting the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, our hearts and consciences are cleansed completely, not partially or temporarily, from dead works to serve the living God (Hebrews 9 vs 14). Christ’s sacrifice transforms our lives and hearts and make us clean on the inside. Our clean conscience allow us to enter God’s presence with boldness. We have a personal access to God through Christ and can draw near to Him without an elaborate system, and growing in faith to deepen our relationship with God.

Prayer: Abba Father, my trust is in You who made heaven and earth. In You I live, and move, and have my being. My faith is forever anchored in You. Whatever You cannot give me, let me not have it. Whatever You cannot do for me, let it remain undone, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

Prayer for Open Doors of Wealth and Prosperity

 Prayer for Open Doors of Wealth and Prosperity 

Open the doors of prosperity, O God, and bring financial abundance into my life. Remove every barrier that has kept me from experiencing the blessings you have promised in your Word. I believe that I am called to a life filled with provision, and I ask for Your guidance and wisdom as I seek to follow this calling.

 

 Grant me an open heart and mind, O Father, so that I may receive all that You have in store for me. Remove any fear or doubt that may be holding me back from claiming the wealth You desire to pour out upon me. I believe that every need will be met, and every obstacle will fall away when I trust fully in Your provision.

 

 In the name of Jesus Christ, I command every blockage, every financial restriction, and every barrier to prosperity to be removed from my path. I declare that all debts are forgiven, and any debt I have incurred is erased by the blood of the Lamb. Let me walk in freedom and abundance, knowing that You will provide for all my needs according to Your riches in glory.

 

 I confess that I am a child of the Most High God, and as such, I deserve nothing less than an abundant life filled with prosperity and wealth. I command any negative thoughts or beliefs about scarcity to be destroyed by the power of the Holy Spirit. May every financial challenge be transformed into an opportunity for growth and success.

 

 May my resources increase not only in quantity but also in quality, as I use them wisely and faithfully. Grant me wisdom to manage my finances well and to steward all that You provide with integrity and righteousness. Protect me from any temptations or deceptive schemes that may seek to lead me astray.

 

 I pray for the prosperity of those who are close to me as well, that our families and communities may experience the blessings of abundance together. May we walk in unity and share generously with others, so that the kingdom of God may be advanced through love and compassion.

 

 In Jesus’ name, I command any negative forces or entities that seek to limit my prosperity to vanish into thin air. May the anointing of the Holy Spirit cover me completely, protecting me from all financial difficulties and bringing me into a season of abundance beyond measure.

 

 I declare that every promise of wealth and prosperity in Your Word is mine by faith. I believe in your power to provide, and I trust fully in Your sovereignty over my life. Remove any blockages or obstacles that may be preventing me from experiencing the fullness of Your blessings. In Jesus' name, Amen.

 Saving Faith Isn’t Easily Satisfied

If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. (Hebrews 11:15–16)

Faith sees the promised future that God offers and “desires” it. “As it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one.” Dwell on this for a moment. 

There are many people who water down what saving faith is by making it a mere decision with no change of what one desires and seeks. But the point of this text in the great faith chapter in the Bible — Hebrews 11 — is that living and dying by faith means having new desires and seeking new satisfactions.

Verse 14 says that the saints of old (who are being commended for their faith here in Hebrews 11) were seeking a different kind of country than this world offered. And verse 16 says they were desiring something better than what a present earthly existence could offer. “They desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one.”

They had been so gripped by God that nothing short of being with God would satisfy.

So, this is true saving faith: seeing the promises of God from afar, and experiencing a change of values so that you desire and seek after and trust in the promises of God above what the world has to offer.

SUBJECT: YOU ASK AND DO NOT RECEIVE!

Memory verse: "You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." (James 4 vs 3.) 

READ: James 1 vs 5 - 8 & 17; First John 5 vs 14 - 15:

James 1:5: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally, and without reproach, and it will be given him.

1:6: But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

1:7: For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 

1:8: he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 

First John 5:14: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us.

5:15: And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we asked of Him.

INTIMATION:

In the epistle of the apostle James we read today, he mentioned the most common mistakes we make in prayer: not asking, when we ask we ask for wrong reasons, or ask for the wrong things. The important question is; do you talk to God at all? If you do, and when you do, what do you talk about? Do you ask only to satisfy your desires? Do you seek God’s approval for what you already planned to do? Are your desires in accordance with God's Will? Your prayers will become powerful when you allow God to change your desires so that they perfectly correspond to His Will for you. 

The apostle James also stated that God's blessing is without reproach or fault-finding. When He blesses, He has blessed, and never turns to find faults. When we go to Him, asking Him for help, He doesn't withhold His help from us because we have made a mistake. The reason why we don't receive is not because we don't deserve what we are asking for, but because we are not asking in faith, and because we have lost our confidence, or we are being double-minded.

Therefore, the major problem with us is that we most times fail to ask from the Lord. We go around complaining about our problems and spending half our times trying to figure out what we can do to solve the problem. We do everything under the sun except the one thing we are asked to do in the Word of God; “Ask, that we may receive that our joy may be full.” (John 16 vs 24.) And when we now remember to ask God in prayer, we ask in unacceptable ways that will culminate into our not receiving our petitions.

In his epistle, the apostle John gives the condition for answered prayer, “Beloved if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” (First John 3 vs 21 - 22.) 

Therefore, answered prayer is conditioned on (1) keeping God’s commandments, and (2) doing the things that are pleasing to God. Therefore, we must ask according to the Will of God, for God does not work contrary to His Will in answer to prayer. We must ask upon the condition that we are obedient to His Will, for God works in the lives of those who are carrying out His work (doing His Will) in the world. 

According to the epistles of the apostles James and John we read today: God is what kind of a God? A "giving God." How does He give? "Liberally and ungrudgingly." To whom does He give? "To everyone that ask according to His Will" What is His attitude in giving? "Without reproach and fault-finding." What kind of gift does He give? "Good and perfect gifts." How does He react after giving? "Without variation or shadow of turning." When does He give? "When we ask in faith." Who receives from Him? “The undouble-minded person, stable in his ways.” Why do we ask in faith? “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.”

The Scripture says, “For whoever would come near to God must believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11 vs 6). And whatever you desire, ask from God, and wait patiently for Him to bring it to pass in His own way, and in His own time. God's ways are perfect! If you are frustrated about timing, learn to pray with the psalmist, "My times are in Your hands......(Psalm 31 vs 15). 

Prayer: Abba Father, I can receive nothing unless it is given to me from You. And I can only receive when I ask in faith, without doubting. I know You will not deny me anything I need to live for You. Endue me with the spirit of faith in, and complete obedience to You, in Jesus’ Name I prayed, Amen.

Better Than Money, Sex, and Power

 Better Than Money, Sex, and Power

Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. (Hebrews 10:35)

We need to ponder the superiority of God as our great reward over all that the world has to offer. If we don’t, we will love the world like everyone else and live like everyone else. 

So, take the things that drive the world, and ponder how much better and more abiding God is. Take money or sex or power and think about them in relation to death. Death will take away every one of them. If that is what you live for, you won’t get much, and what you get, you lose. 

But God’s treasure is vastly superior, and it lasts. It goes beyond death. It’s better than money because God owns all the money and he is our Father. We are his heirs. “All [things] are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s” (1 Corinthians 3:22–23).

It’s better than sex. Jesus never had sexual relations, and he was the most full and complete human that ever will exist. Sex is a shadow — an image — of a greater reality, of a relationship and a pleasure that will make the most exquisite sex seem like a yawn.

The reward of God is better than power. There is no greater human power than to be a child of the almighty God. “Do you not know that we are to judge angels?” (1 Corinthians 6:3). “The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne” (Revelation 3:21).

And so it goes on and on. Everything the world has to offer, God is better and more abiding.

There is no comparison. God wins — every time. The question is: Will we have him? Will we wake up from the trance of this stupefying world and see and believe and rejoice in and love what is truly real, and infinitely valuable, and everlasting?

SUBJECT: THE DOUBLE-MINDED PERSON!

Memory verse: "Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, If you have faith, and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed, and be cast into the sea; it will be done." (Matthew 21 vs 21.) 

READ: James 1 vs 5 -8:

1:6: But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

1:7: For Let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

1:8: he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

INTIMATION:

A double-mind is a mind that wavers; it’s not completely convinced about the referenced subject. In fact, a double-mind is always in doubt. And the one who doubts usually does not expect an answer to his or her requests because he or she has a weak faith. The double-mind person is “two souled,” that is, with two minds. Such persons will be trying to serve the Lord Jesus with one mind, and the world with the other. His or her commitment to God is always hindered by his compromises with the world. He can never give himself fully to God simply because he has partially given himself to the world. 

A double-minded person is not completely persuaded that God’s way is the best. Such persons treat God’s Word like any human advice and retain the option to disobey. He or she vacillates between allegiance to subjective feelings, the world’s ideas, and God’s commands. And because he or she does not totally commit to the Lord, he or she is undependable in reference to the service to the Lord. Consequently, God will not be committed to such person. 

In the passage we read today, the apostle James likens such wavering mind to the waves of the sea. If you observe the waves of the sea, you will notice how restless they are; subject to the forces of the wind, gravity, and tide. Double-mind or doubt leaves a person as unsettled as the restless waves. The double-minded person has no complete and absolute trust in God. And God is not pleased with such mind because it doubts His integrity. Consequently, such mind hardly receive from God since it’s in doubt and hardly would ask in faith. 

To "ask in faith, with no doubting" means not only believing in the existence of God, but also believing in His loving care. It includes relying on God and expecting that He will hear and answer to your prayers when you pray in line with His Will. Faith is the foundation upon which our prayer must be made. It is also the condition for which our prayers are answered. Therefore, believers must pray with the attitude that God will answer their prayers. The one who doubts in his or her prayers also doubts in the rest of his or her Christian life. His or her attitude and actions are determined by the circumstances in which he or she lives, and is not a person on whom one can depend in times of crisis. 

In First Kings 18 vs 21, the Bible gives an illustration of the double-minded; "And Elijah came to all people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word." Elijah was confronted with the problem of dealing with double-minded men, who would not take a stand, and were vacillating between two opinions about the true God. 

In our society, even among the Christians, many people are very unstable in their ways, and hardly can take a stand in their lives. In fact, it is grievous when they cannot take a stand in their relationship with God, and are just drifting along with whatever is pleasant and easy to them. They are inadvertently, worshipping false gods, this time, themselves!

The unbelieving, double or doubting mind, is an indication of spiritual infancy, resulting in lack of divine wisdom. The apostle James advices that those who lack such wisdom should ask from God, and that, in His loving kindness, He will liberally and without reproach give to them. 

There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. Wisdom is the skill or ability to correctly handle the knowledge of truth and facts. God is the source of true wisdom, and He generously and freely gives wisdom to those who ask. God does not become weary of our asking. Therefore, ask in faith and you will receive answer to your petition. 

Prayer: Abba Father, You are my Loving Father. My absolute trust and confidence is in You. What You cannot do for me, let it remain undone. What You cannot give me, may I never have it. My sufficiency is in You, and in You I live and move and have my being, and I cast all my care upon You, so help me Lord, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

Grace for the New Year

 Grace for the New Year

By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. (1 Corinthians 15:10)

Grace is not only God’s disposition to do good for us when we don’t deserve it. It is an actual power from God that acts and makes good things happen in us and for us.

God’s grace was God’s acting in Paul to make Paul work hard: “By the grace of God . . . I worked harder than any of them.” So when Paul says, “Work out your own salvation,” he adds, “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12–13). Grace is power from God to do good things in us and for us.

This grace is past and it is future. It is ever-cascading over the infinitesimal waterfall of the present, from the inexhaustible river of grace coming to us from the future, into the ever-increasing reservoir of grace in the past.
