SUBJECT : GOD’S MERCY IN OUR LIVES!

Memory verse: "But go and learn what that means: 'I will have mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Matthew 9 vs 13.)

READ: Zechariah 3 vs 1 - 5:

3:1: Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him.

3:2: And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?”

3:3: Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel.

3:4: Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from Him.” And to him He said, “See I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”

3:5: And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him. And the Angel of the Lord stood by.

INTIMATION:

Mercy is kindness or forbearance towards someone in one's power: a good thing regarded as derived from God. Mercy is God's nature, and is one of His profound ways of helping His people. God's mercy is forgiving, compassionate, withholding of the punishment or judgement our sins deserve. And because we can't do without help from God, His mercy endures forever.

King David, the man God described as; “a man after My own heart,” extensively utilized that nature of God. For instance, God was angry with David when he counted the people of Israel and sent a plaque among the people, such that seventy thousand men died in one day. But David cried out for God's mercy, which he knew would always answer for him and God was intreated. David said to Gad, "I am in great distress. Please let us fall now into the hand of the Lord; for His mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man." (Second Samuel 24 vs 14.)

In the passage we read today, the prophet Zechariah, had a vision of how merciful God is. In the vision, he saw the activities or accusations of Satan against the children of Israel represented by Joshua the high priest (He was Israel’s high priest when the remnant returned to Jerusalem and began rebuilding the walls). Satan accused (“opposed”) Joshua. Though the accusations were accurate because the children of Israel had sinned against God (the reason Joshua stood in filthy garments (sins), but yet God revealed His mercy, stating that He chose to save His people in spite of their sin.

Satan is always accusing people of their sins before God (Job 1 vs 6). But he greatly misunderstands the breadth of God’s mercy and forgiveness toward those who believe in Him. God punished Judah through the fire of great trials, but He rescued the nation before it was completely destroyed, like “a brand plucked from the fire.”

Zechariah’s vision graphically portrays how we receive God’s mercy. We do nothing ourselves to deserve it. But God removes our filthy garments (sins), then provides us with fine, new clothes (the righteousness and holiness of God (Second Corinthians 5 vs 21; Ephesians 4 vs 24; Revelation 19 vs 8)). All we need to do is repent and ask God to forgive us. When Satan tries to make you feel dirty and unworthy, remember that the clean clothes of Christ’s righteousness make you worthy to draw near to God.

There is a need to understand the place of God's mercy in our lives. It’s important also to note that what you are fighting against may not be the devil, or witches and wizards as you had thought; it could be something you had done, like David, that angered God. He can be intreated when you call for His mercy. Also, certain things may be responsible for where we find ourselves and we may not know what they are. You may know all that you are doing, but will not know all that is doing you. But the mercy of God will always answer for us when we cry to Him in prayers.

Maybe a curse was placed upon one of your forefathers, which you inherited without knowing. Some people have so much money but can't account for how it was spent. They have no land, house, or anything to show for all the money that passed through their hands, yet they are heavily indebted. Some don't even know what next to do with their lives. They just keep wandering about. They invest in all manner of businesses and never realize anything out of them.

For some people, the things or habits plaguing them are like ancestral curses. They discover that things such as poverty, failure, marriage spell, immorality, drunkenness, lying, etc run through all their family tree. If you find yourself in any of such predicament, you can cry for the mercy of God to severe you from them. You can say to God, "Lord, I don't know the cause of this thing, but You know all things. Whatever I may have dabbled into through carelessness or ignorance, which has brought this affliction in my life, Lord have mercy! Whatever may have come on me through the negative side of my natural background, let Your mercy prevail for me!" Plead the mercy of God against that mysterious affliction in your life and it will give up, and you will be free.

It is God's Will to show mercy, therefore, His desire is to have mercy on us out of His Love nature, and not out of our ability to appease Him with our sacrifice. Hence God's instruction in Psalm 50 vs 15, "And call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

God willingly responds with help when we ask. Perhaps there is a sin in your life that you thought God would not forgive. God's steadfast love and mercy are greater than any sin, and He promises forgiveness: "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is Your faithfulness."(Lamentations 3 vs 22 - 23.)

Prayer: Abba Father, You are loving, and ever merciful. Like David, I prefer to fall into Your hands because I know Your mercy endures forever. Great is Your faithfulness. Let Your mercy, O Lord, locate me in my distress, even when I don’t know the source for my afflictions, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

DISCERN THE SPIRIT IN YOUR ENVIRONMEN

Date: Wednesday, January 21st, 2026

Title: DISCERN THE SPIRIT IN YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Ephesians 6:12, Acts 8:5-9

As you grow as a Christian that wants to bear much fruit, you must understand that you are not living in a vacuum. You are planted in a territory that has a spiritual climate. The Bible says we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. Those principalities sit over cities, tribes, families and even professions, pushing people in a particular wrong direction. When you decide that you will live as a serious Christian in your own city, the ruling spirit in that land will notice you. Some of the pressures you call ordinary trouble are actually the environment trying to pull you back to its old pattern. Until you discern the spirit in your environment, you will keep explaining away spiritual battles as normal life and you will surrender fruits that God is looking for.One of the things God must teach you if you will fruitful as a believer is how not to team up with the spirit in the land. In some places, people worship money; corruption is normal conversation. The spirit in the land is only adding names to its list of people it has conquered. The Church cannot copy that pattern and expect to manifest the glory of God. For a believer, excellence must become a lifestyle that flows from the nature of God inside you, not a performance you put on when people are watching.Acts 8 shows us another important truth. Principalities do not operate in the air alone, they look for personalities to express them. In Samaria, there was a man called Simon who used sorcery and bewitched the city, giving out that he was some great one. When Philip came with the gospel, the unclean spirits cried out and came out of many that were possessed, and there was great joy in that city. The principality that had ruled through Simon lost its grip. In every land the devil is looking for men and women that will become his mouth, his hands and his legs, so that he can spread rebellion, immorality, laziness, bad work attitude and wrong values. You must therefore be sensitive, not suspicious, and ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the ruling attitude in your environment and to the personalities that carry it. As you refuse to copy the spirit in the land and insist on copying Christ, you will stand out as an overcomer, finish what you start, honour God where others despise Him and bear fruits that no territorial power can stop.THOUGHT TO PONDER: How will I practically refuse to team up with that spirit and instead follow the Holy Spirit so that I can finish my God-given assignments?

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to the spirit in my environment and to the personalities it uses, help me to refuse every wrong pattern and to finish every assignment You give me, so that my life will bear fruits that glorify You. Amen.

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

TUESDAY JANUARY 20, 2026.

SUBJECT: THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!

Memory verse: "So that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure,” (Second Thessalonians 1 vs 4.)

READ: Acts 2 vs 1 - 4:

2:1 When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

2:3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

INTIMATION:

The power of the Holy Spirit is the power of God. The Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, has appeared throughout Scriptures as a Being through and by whom great works of power are made manifest. His power was first seen in the act of creation, for it was by His power the world came into being (Genesis 1 vs 1 - 2; Job 26 vs 13).

The Holy Spirit also empowered men in the Old Testament to bring about God’s Will: “So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power” (First Samuel 16 vs 3; see also Exodus 31 vs 2 - 5; Numbers 27 vs 18).

Although the Spirit did not permanently indwell God’s people in the Old Testament, He worked through them and gave them power to achieve things they would not have been able to accomplish on their own. All of Samson’s feats of strength are directly attributed to the Spirit coming upon him (Judges 14 vs 6, 19; 15 vs 14).

Throughout history God has revealed His power through mighty miracles over nature. He promises to continue to reveal His power. The apostle Paul urged us to understand how great God’s power is (Ephesians 1 vs 18 - 23). The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to help us with our daily problems.

When you feel weak and limited, don’t despair. Remember that God can give you strength. The same power that control creation and raises the dead is available to you. The Holy Spirit is the manifestation of God who works in and through Christians in this dispensation of time in order to accomplish the work of God on earth through the church.

Jesus promised the Spirit as a permanent guide, teacher, seal of salvation, and comforter for believers (John 14 vs 16 - 18). He also promised that the Holy Spirit’s power would help His followers to spread the message of the gospel around the world: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1 vs 8). The salvation of souls is a supernatural work only made possible by the Holy Spirit’s power at work in the world.

At Pentecost (Acts 2 vs 1 - 4) the Holy Spirit was made available to all who believed in Jesus. We receive the Holy Spirit (are baptized with Him) when we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior. The baptism of the Holy Spirit must be understood in the light of his total work in Christians: (1) The Spirit marks the beginning of the Christian experience. We cannot be Christians without His Spirit (Romans 8 vs 9); we cannot be joined to Christ without His Spirit (First Corinthians 6 vs 17); we cannot be adopted as His children without His Spirit (Romans 8 vs 14 - 17; Galatians 4 vs 6 - 7); we cannot be in the Body of Christ except by baptism in the Spirit (First Corinthians 12 vs 13).

(2) The Spirit is the power of our new lives. He begins a lifelong process of change making us more like Christ (Galatians 3 vs 3; Philippians 1 vs 6). When we receive Christ by faith, we begin an immediate personal relationship with God. The Holy Spirit works in us to help us become like Christ.

(3) The Spirit unites the Christian community in Christ (Ephesians 2 vs 19 - 22). The Holy Spirit can be experienced by all, and he works through all (First Corinthians 12 vs 11; Ephesians 4 vs 4). The kingdom Jesus preached about was, first of all, a spiritual kingdom established in the hearts and lives of believers (Luke 17 vs 21). God’s presence and power dwell in the person of the Holy Spirit.

The “power” the believers receive from the Holy Spirit includes courage, boldness, confidence, insight, ability, and authority. If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior, you can experience the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 4 vs 1), led by the Spirit (Luke 4 vs 14), and empowered by the Spirit to perform miracles (Matthew 12 vs 28). After Jesus had ascended to heaven, the Spirit equipped the apostles to perform miracles, too (Second Corinthians 2 vs 12; Acts 2 vs 43; 3 vs 1 - 7; 9 vs 39 - 41). The power of the Holy Spirit was manifest among all the believers of the early church through the dispensation of spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophesying, teaching, wisdom, and more.

Jesus had instructed His disciples to witness to people of all nations about Him (Matthew 28 vs 19 - 20). But they were told to wait first for the Holy Spirit (Luke 24 vs 49). God has important work for you to do for Him, but you must do it by the power of the Holy Spirit. We often like to get on with the job, even if it means running ahead of God. But waiting is sometimes part of God’s plan. Are you waiting and listening to God’s complete instructions, or are you running ahead of His plans? We need God’s timing and power to be truly effective.

All those who put their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately and permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8 vs 11). And, although some of the spiritual gifts have ceased (e.g., speaking in tongues and prophecy), the Holy Spirit still works in and through believers to accomplish His Will. His power leads us, convicts us, teaches us, and equips us to do His work and spread the gospel. The Holy Spirit’s powerful indwelling is an amazing gift we should never take lightly.

PRAYER: Abba Father, thank You for the unparalleled gift of the Holy Spirit and the subsequent manifestation of His power in the lives of believers in Christ. I covet earnestly the constant leading of the Holy Spirit in my life at all times and in all things, in the Jesus’ mighty Name I have prayed, Amen.

RAISING GODLINESS IN A HOSTILE WORLD

Date: Tuesday, January 20th, 2026

Title: RAISING GODLINESS IN A HOSTILE WORLD

2 Timothy 3:12, Matthew 5:10

At salvation, you were not only called to follow Jesus, you were also enlisted to raise the standard of godliness wherever you find yourself. The moment you decide that you will be like God in your words, habits and choices, you have signed up for persecution. The Bible says, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). There are people who will tell you that you are taking Christianity too far simply because you refused to lie, cheat or dress like the crowd. Some of that persecution will come from human beings who are offended that you no longer fit their description of a normal person. If you do not understand this, you will interpret every resistance you meet as a sign to lower your standard instead of seeing it as proof that you are on the right path.Godly living is not a gift that falls on you, it is a decision you make every day, and that decision has consequences. When you decide that you will talk like a Christian in your family, some relatives will pick offence. When you decide that you will run your business honestly, colleagues who cut corners will persecute you because your life is silently rebuking them. If you will be fruitful this year, you must make up your mind that you will always raise the standard of godliness, not reduce it to keep people happy.Jesus said, “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake.” That means Heaven is watching how you respond when persecution comes because of your stand. Some women come to church every Sunday after a tongue lashing at home from an unbelieving husband, yet they lift their hands and rejoice before the Lord. Another sister with a born again husband is still grumbling because he did not wait for her to tie a particular headgear before leaving the house. Who is really serious with God between the two? Sometimes God will even allow a bit of persecution to wake you up from spiritual softness so that you toughen up inside. In this new year, refuse to hide your light just to blend with the crowd. Decide that in your dressing, your speech, your work attitude, your money and your relationships, you will quietly raise the standard of godliness, and as you abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit will use every pressure and persecution as tools to grow you into a fruitful, overcoming Christian.THOUGHT TO PONDER: Where am I quietly lowering the standard of godliness in order to avoid persecution or please people? What practical decisions must I take today to raise God’s standard in my home, work and church?

Prayer: Lord, strengthen my heart to choose godliness even when it attracts persecution. Help me to raise Your standard in every area of my life and turn every pressure to fruitfulness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Every day in the God's Word

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

MONDAY JANUARY 19, 2026.

SUBJECT: GOD USES ANYBODY TO ACHIEVE HIS PURPOSE!

Memory verse: "Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out of two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there.” (Joshua 2 vs 1.)

READ: Acts 23 vs 16 - 22:

23:16: So when Paul's sister's son heard of their ambush, he went and entered the barracks and told Paul.

23:17: Then Paul called one of the centurions to him and said, “Take this young man to the commander, for he has something to tell him.”

23:18: So he took him and brought him to the commander and said, “Paul the prisoner called me to him and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to say to you.

23:19: Then the commander took him by the hand, went aside, and asked privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”

23:20: And he said, “The Jews have agreed to ask that you bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they were going to enquirer more fully about him.

23:21: But do not yield to them: for more than forty of them lie in wait for him, men who have bound themselves by an oath that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now they are ready, waiting for a promise from you.

23:22: So the commander let the young man depart, and commanded him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”

INTIMATION:

God has no favorites; none preferred above others, liked or loved above others. We are all created in His own image and after His likeness. We are equally loved by Him; “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3 vs 16). God’s work in history is not limited by human failures or sins, and He works through ordinary people. He can use anyone, of any age, and any background, who is willing to yield to Him. Just as God used all kinds of people to bring His Son into the world, He uses all kinds today to accomplish His Will. And God wants to use you. Nobody is excluded from God’s love, but we appropriate it to ourselves by believing in His Son—Jesus Christ—He sent to us.

Several heroes in the Bible were common people: Jacob was known as a deceiver but God used him to “father” the Israelite nation (Genesis 27 - 28). Joseph was a slave in Egypt, but God used him to save his family, and the birth of Israelite nation (Genesis 39). Moses was a shepherd in exile and a murderer, but God used him to lead Israel out of bondage to the Promised Land (Exodus 3). Gideon was a farmer but God used him to deliver Israel from the Midianites (Judges 6 vs 11 - 14). Jephthah was the Son of a harlot, but God used him to deliver Israel from the Ammonites (Judges 11).

David was a shepherd boy and last-born of the family, but God used him exceedingly to defeat the enemies of the Israelites, and he became Israel’s greatest king. Esther was a slave girl, but God used her to save her people from massacre (Esther). Mary was a peasant girl, but God made her the mother of Jesus (Luke 1 vs 27 - 28). Matthew was a tax collector, but God used him as one of the apostles and Gospel writer (Matthew 9 vs 9). Paul a persecutor of Christians, but God converted him to be the most influential of the apostles (First Corinthians 15 vs 9 - 10).

Our memory verse relates to the use of prostitute by God to accomplish His plan. Rahab was a prostitute in the city of Jericho. As a prostitute, she lived on the edge of society, one stop short of rejection. Her house, built right into the city wall, provided both lodging and favors to travelers. God used her and gave her the courage to hide the spies and lie to the authorities. God works through people, like Rahab, whom we are inclined to reject. God remembered her because of her faith, not her profession. If at times you feel like a failure, remember that Rahab rose above her situation through her trust in God. You can do the same.

In the passage we read today, God used a child to accomplish His plan to save the apostle Paul’s life. It is easy to overlook children, assuming that they aren’t old enough to do much for the Lord. But this young man played an important part in protecting Paul’s life. Even Jesus made it clear that children are important (Matthew 18 vs 2 - 6).

The encounter of Jesus with the woman of Samaria in John 4 vs 7 - 42 clearly emphasizes God’s character of not being particular about your background, and loves us equally. The woman (1) was a Samaritan, a member of the hated mixed race, (2) was known to be living in sin, and (3) was in a public place. No responsible Jewish man would talk to a woman under such circumstances. But Jesus did, her social status, past sin, and her race notwithstanding. The same woman was used to convert a whole city—the city of Samaria. Jesus selected “ordinary” men with a mixture of backgrounds and personalities to be His disciples. He can use you!

Prayer: Abba Father, I love You, all I have is Yours, Yours I am, Yours I want to be, use me as it pleases You. Here I am, use me, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed. Amen.

PRAISE THE LORD!

YOU BECOME WHAT AND WHO YOU FOLLOW

Monday, January 19th, 2026

Title: YOU BECOME WHAT AND WHO YOU FOLLOW

Matthew 4:19, 1 Corinthians 11:1-

At salvation, God’s first call to you is not to join a group in church but to be a follower of Jesus. Church membership is part of God’s plan, but it is a means to an end, not the end itself. Jesus did not say, “Join my crowd”; He said, “Follow me, and I will make you.” It is as you follow that He makes you into a fruitful Christian that can bear much fruit in life, ministry and destiny. Many people are very active in church but are not deliberate about following Jesus personally, so their lives do not move from level to level in manifestation. If your Christianity is only group based, you will hide inside the crowd, but when persecution, pressure or temptation comes, it will be clear whether you truly followed the Lord or only followed friends. When you come into a local church, you must find out who and what you are supposed to follow. Paul said, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” That means you follow men only to the degree that they are clearly following Jesus. A believer who does not understand this will follow anybody that looks successful, even if such a person is walking with the devil. As a child of God there is nothing wrong in learning in your field from people ahead of you, but you must know the limits of your followership. Jesus must remain the primary person you are following in everything, or you will gradually raise the standard of success while lowering the standard of godliness. In this new year, I want you to sit down and examine your secret models, because you become who you follow. Some Christians come to church but are actually following celebrities, worldly professionals and unbelieving relatives in their behaviour and choices. If your real pattern in finances is a corrupt businessman, or in marriage is a godless entertainer, do not be surprised when your fruits begin to look like theirs instead of like Christ. God is calling you to raise the standard of godliness again in your own life. Decide that you will study Jesus in the Bible, follow His lifestyle of obedience, meekness, purity and courage, and then follow leaders whose doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, love and patience match that pattern. Break away from any influence that is dragging you into compromise, no matter how admired or wealthy that person is. As you choose to follow Jesus closely and follow men only as they follow Him, you will see the Holy Spirit begin to make you, shape your heart and cause your life to bear fruits that will stand in the fire of eternity.THOUGHT TO PONDER: Who are you truly following in your secret thoughts, desires and decisions today? What practical step will you take this week to shift your followership back to Jesus and godly examples that point you to Him?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to stop copying the wrong patterns, to follow You closely and to follow only leaders that truly follow You, so that my life will bear fruits that glorify God. Amen.

Every day in the God's Word

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

SUNDAY JANUARY 18, 2026.

SUBJECT: THANKSGIVING IN WORSHIP!

Memory verse: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;" (Philippians 4 vs 6.)

READ: Psalm 69 vs 30; 100 vs 4; Colossians 2 vs 6 - 7; 4 vs 2:

Psalm 69:30: I will praise the name of the LORD with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.

100:4: Enter into His gate with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His Name.

Colossians 2:6: As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

2:7: rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

4:2: Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.

INTIMATION:

The Christian works in thanksgiving for what God has done through His grace, acknowledging God’s goodness, which expresses your faith and confidence in Him. There is no powerful living apart from a life of thanksgiving which, of course, is the will of God for us. The Christian is zealous in the Lord because of his or her salvation that has come from the Lord through the offering of His Son Jesus Christ as a propitiation for our sins. Prayer and petitions (supplication) are to be made in the spirit of thanking God for all that He has done in our lives. When one truly understands the grace of God, He or she will respond in thanksgiving for all that God has done through Jesus.

God desires an attitude of thanksgiving, not just an act of it. Thanksgiving is an application for more. Being thankful for all the things He has done and is doing in your life is a pathway to receiving your petitions from Him. Therefore, when you have petitioned God for something, immediately begin to thank Him in trust and confidence that the thing you have asked for is on the way coming. The apostle Paul counsels all believers to give thanks in everything; for this is the Will of God in Christ Jesus for them (First Thessalonians 5 vs 18.)

The apostle Paul lived a life of thanksgiving and preached the same to all believers. In some of the passages we read today, his counsel on thanksgiving, as an integral part of worship, is clearly expressed. In our memory verse (Philippians 4 vs 6), Paul counsels all believers to be thankful for what we ask in prayer, and to continuously be thankful and grateful for what He has already done in the past, what He is doing now, and what He is going to do in the future, including answer to your petition.

Jesus, our Messiah and perfect example, lived a life of thanksgiving during His earthly ministry. He knows the power of thanksgiving when communing with the Father, and gave thanks to the Father always. For example; He gave thanks to God when He broke the seven loaves and fishes and fed the four thousand (Matthew 15 vs 36). He gave thanks to God when He took the five loaves and two fishes and fed five thousand (John 6 vs 11). He also thanked God for hearing Him at the tomb of the dead Lazarus (John 11 vs 41). And He gave thanks to God when He gave the bread and wine to His disciples at the Last Super (Mark 14 vs 22 - 23).

Thanksgiving magnifies the Name of the LORD (Psalm 69 vs 30), and opens the gate of the court of the LORD (Psalm 100 vs 4). It also, multiplies what we have received (Second Corinthians 9 vs 12). For instance, when Jesus lifted up the bread and fishes and gave thanks it multiplied, thus thousands were fed by the meal of a child. Also, the power of thanksgiving in prayer helps us abound in Christ, drawing our life-giving strength from Christ (Colossians 2 vs 7). The more we draw our strength from Him, the less we are fooled by those who falsely claim to have life’s answers. If Christ is our strength we will be free from human regulations.

This kind of lifestyle of thanksgiving is an evidence of a grateful heart. If a person is grateful for what he already has, it is an indication that the individual is mature enough to receive other blessings. But if a person is always complaining about what he has now, why should the Lord bother to give him anything else to crab and gripe about. When we realize how far God had to send His Son in order to redeem us from condemnation, we respond with a life of thanksgiving. Our good works, therefore, are works of thanksgiving, not works of merit. Christians are motivated because of what they already have in Christ.

Prayer: Abba Father, there is none like You. Your steadfastness never seizes, and Your mercies never come to an end. Your compassion never fails. I will forever remain thankful to You for all Your great and wondrous works in my life. What You cannot do for me let it remain undone, and what You cannot give me may I never have it, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

PRAISE THE LORD!
