SUBJECT : BRINGING PLEASURE TO GOD IN WORSHIP!

Memory verse: "The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.” (Psalm 147 vs 11.)

READ: Matthew 4 vs 8 - 10:

4:8: Again the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 

4:9: And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."

4:10: Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.

INTIMATION:

God created you for His pleasure, therefore, you should bring pleasure to Him. God takes pleasure in your recognition of who He is. He lays great emphasis on who He is. The statement, "I am the Lord," is made over 350 times by the Lord in ‘Old Testament’ alone. Anything you do that brings pleasure to God is an act of worship. Worshipping God is one of your life's purposes. He takes pleasure in it. Worship is paying great honor to; to love and admire very greatly. Worship is the appropriate response to God's self-revelation. You worship because you know the worth of what you worship. You worship God because you know who He is. When you catch the revelation of God and His worth, the appropriate response is to reverence Him in worship. 

God desires your worship in spirit and in truth (John 4 vs 23). True worshippers worship God in spirit. "God is Spirit" means He is not a physical being limited to one place. He is present everywhere and He can be worshipped anywhere, at any time. It is not where you worship that counts, but how you worship. Is your worship genuine and true? Whatever you do anytime, anywhere, and anyhow that gives God pleasure is an act of worship. God desires our reverence and trust. Have you ever imagined who God is? Have you ever sat down to appreciate nature, and all the natural things you see around you? How did they come into being? Take a little time and do this, starting with imagining how you were made. It is in so doing, you catch the self-revelation of who created all these things, and worship Him. 

Even the devil knows the essence of worship, and wants to be worshipped. He took Jesus to an 'exceedingly high mountain,' God's creation, and showed Him "all the kingdoms of the world and their glory," again God' creation. He requested that Jesus should worship him for all these, which, of course, are not created by him. Jesus answered him well, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve." God created us to worship Him, and only Him we shall serve. The devil, the greatest enemy of God, wanted that which is due to God alone. He offered the whole world to Jesus in exchange of worshipping him. You can now realize the value of worship—worth more than the whole world.

The understanding of "worship" defers among religious backgrounds. Some think that praises during church services with singing constitute worship, some think that praying, and listening to a sermon as worship. Some think of ceremonies, candles, and communion as worship. Others think of healing, miracles, and ecstatic experiences as worship. Worship include these elements, but worship is far more than these expressions. Worship is a lifestyle. It is not a part of your life; it is your life. Worship is not just communion with God, or church services. It is your whole life given for service to God, and His pleasure. 

The psalmist, in Psalm 105 vs 4 says, "Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore." And, "From the rising of the sun to it's going down the Lord's name is to be praised." (Psalm 113 vs 3.) God is worshipped continually, therefore, praise God in worship at all times—at work, at home, in battle, in jail, and even in bed! Praise should be the first activity when you open your eyes in the morning and the last activity before you close them at night. Ensuring that you worship Him continually knowing it is the first purpose of your creation.

Every activity can be transformed into an act of worship when you do it for the praise, glory, and pleasure of God. The Bible, in First Corinthians 10 vs 31, says "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." How is it possible to do everything to the glory of God? By allowing God's love to permeate our motives so that all we do will be to His glory. By doing everything as if you were doing it for Jesus and by carrying on a continual conversation with Him while we do it. You can keep as a guiding principle the question to self, "Is this action glorifying God?" Or "How can I honor God through this action?"

The Bible, in Colossians 3 vs 23 says, "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men." This is the secret to a lifestyle of worship—doing everything as if you were doing it for Jesus. Since creation, God has given us work to do. If we could regard our work as an act of worship or service to God, such an attitude should be regarded as the cost of discipleship. The apostle Paul noted this in Romans 12 vs 1 when he said, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." We should daily lay aside our own desires to follow him, putting all our energy and resources at His disposal and trusting Him to guide us. 

Prayer: Abba Father, my utmost heart desire is for an intimate relationship with You. Endue me with Your excellent spirit that I may worship You all the days of my life, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

HIGH LIFE BY PRIESTHOOD

 

MAKE YOUR CHOICE OF WHO TO SERVE!

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

SUBJECT : MAKE YOUR CHOICE OF WHO TO SERVE!

Memory verse: ""And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24 vs 15.)

READ: First Kings 18 vs 20 - 21:

18:20: Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on mount Carmel.

18:21: And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him, but if Baal, follow him. But the people answered him not a word.

INTIMATION:

The time is now for your resolution of who you live for, either for yourself or for God. God created us as free-moral beings, and allows a choice in all things. He will not make our choices for now and the future. Your right to choose makes you responsible for your now and future thereby putting your own destiny in your hands. Because of what God had done for you in Christ Jesus, it is reasonable and responsible for you to make the choice to continue in obedience to His will. However, if you fail to do the will of God, you will be responsible for your own judgements from God.

Why did so many people waver between the two choices? Perhaps some were not sure. Many, however, knew the Lord was God, but they enjoyed the sinful pleasures and other benefits that came from their idolatrous worship. It is important to take a stand for the Lord. If we just drift with whatever is pleasant and easy, we will someday discover that we have been worshipping a false God—ourselves. That is idolatry—simply following after your own desires. It’s easy to slip into a quiet rebellion—going about life in your own way. 

But the time comes when you have to choose who or what will control you. The choice is yours. Will it be God, your own limited personality, or another imperfect substitute? Once you have chosen to be controlled by God’s Spirit, reaffirm your choice every day. Living the rest of your life for the glory of God will require a change in your priorities, your schedule, your relationships, and everything else. It will sometimes mean not following the way of others, or choosing the difficult path instead of an easy one. The way we live shows others the strength of our commitment to serving God. 

Jesus during His earth walk, struggled with such choice at a time. When He remembered that He was about to be crucified, He cried out, "Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name..." (John 12 vs 27 - 28.) Jesus knew that His crucifixion lay ahead, and because He was human he dreaded it. He wanted to be delivered from this horrible death, but He knew that God sent Him into the world to die for our sins, in our place. Jesus said no to His human desires in order to obey His Father and glorify Him.

Will you live for your own goals, comfort, and pleasure, or will you live the rest of your life for God's glory, knowing that He has promised eternal rewards? The Bible says in John 12 vs 25, "He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life." Our commitment to live for Christ does not mean that we long to die or that we are careless or destructive with the life God has given, but that we are willing to die if doing so will glorify Christ. God gives you what you need to live for Him, if you just make the choice. The Bible in Second Peter 1 vs 3 says, "As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue."

God is constantly inviting us to live for His glory by fulfilling the purposes He created us for. It's really the only way to live. Everything else is just existing. Real life begins by committing yourself completely to Jesus Christ. If you have not done this, or you are not sure, all you need to do is receive and believe in Him. The Bible, in John 1 vs 12 promises, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." 

First, believe. Believe God loves you and made you for His purposes. Believe you're not an accident. Believe you were made to last forever. Believe God has chosen you to have a relationship with Jesus, who died on the cross for you. Believe that no matter what you've done, God wants to forgive you. Second, receive. Receive Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. Receive His forgiveness for your sins. Receive His Spirit, who will give you the power to fulfill your life purpose. The Bible, in John 3 vs 36 says, "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life..." If you are ready to believe and receive Him right now where you are, just say this prayer quietly, bowing down your head:

"God my Father in heaven, I believe You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to die in my stead on the cross at Calvary for my sins. I do, here and now, open my heart and receive Jesus Christ and His new life into my life as my Lord and Savior. I believe that as I receive Jesus, I receive You, O God. I am now restored to You my God and Father through Jesus my Savior. Amen."

If you sincerely meant that prayer, congratulations! Welcome to the family of God! You are now ready to discover and start living God's purpose for your life. It is as simple as that. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for the privilege of sonship. Endue me with the excellent spirit of total obedience and commitment to You that ai May live for You all the days of my life, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

CRUCIFY THE FLESH!

EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

THURSDAY AUGUST 05, 2021.

SUBJECT : CRUCIFY THE FLESH! 

Memory verse: "But rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when the glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy?" (First Peter 4 vs 13.) 

READ: Romans 8 vs 12 - 17:

8:12: Therefore, brethren, we are debtors - not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

8:13: For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

8:14: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.

8:15: For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba Father."

8:16: The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

8:17: And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if we suffer with him; that we may also be glorified together.

8:18: For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

INTIMATION:

When you become "Born-again," that is, when you believe in Christ and His finished work for you on the cross, and confess Him as your Lord and Savior, you are adopted as a child of God. And as a child of God, you have the opportunity of the leading by the Holy Spirit. Being the children of God exact the price of being "heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ." Because we are God's children, we share in His great treasures as co-heirs. God has given us His best gifts: His Son, the Holy Spirit, forgiveness, and Eternal life; and He encourages us to ask Him for whatever we need. 

As followers of Christ, we are led by the Spirit, and consequently, are indebted to the Spirit, and not to the flesh. Just like Christ, we have to suffer in the flesh in obedience to the leading of the Spirit. The flesh is the playground of the devil, and the Spirit has nothing to do with the flesh. Our flesh is never going to want what the Spirit wants, and even when our spirit wants to follow the Lord, the appetites of our flesh will tempt us to disobey God. As a result, we will sense a war going on in us as we choose to conform to God's leading.

As long as we're here on earth our flesh and our born-again heart will not be in natural agreement; "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish." (Galatians 5 vs 17.) Though the desires of the flesh are not going to disappear and go away, but if we choose to be led by the Spirit, we won't fulfill the desires of the flesh, therefore, devil won't get his way. The desires of the flesh leads us away from God's best. The apostle Paul said, "I say then; Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5 vs 16).

The bottom line is that our flesh wants to do one thing and the Spirit wants us to do something else, and if we choose to follow the Spirit of God, our flesh is going to suffer. We don't like that, but the Scripture simply says that if we want to share Christ's glory, we have to be willing to share His suffering. Christians must face suffering of the flesh, and as Christ's followers we must endure the suffering. 

The flesh is selfish and self-centered. If we walk in the flesh, we will never act like Jesus Christ. To live as Jesus did—serving others, giving up one's rights, resisting pressures to conform to the world—always exacts a price of longsuffering. He crucified the flesh, so that He was completely led by the Spirit. Jesus is our role model. Nothing we suffer, however, can compare to the great price that Jesus paid to save us. 

God teaches us what is right through the Spirit indwelling us, and all day long, seven days a week, we have to choose the right thing over the wrong thing. Until the last trumpet sounds, and Jesus comes to get us, we're going to have to say no to self and yes to God. We must realize that in order to follow God, the flesh must be told no, and when that happens the flesh suffers. 

Prayer: Abba Father, I thank You for the privileges of sonship You have given me. My utmost heart desire is to join in Your suffering, crucifying the flesh and being lead by the Spirit, that I may be glorified in You, in Jesus' Name I have prayed. Amen.

WHEN NO IS GOD’S ANSWER TO YOUR PRAYER!

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 04, 2021.

SUBJECT : WHEN NO IS GOD’S ANSWER TO YOUR PRAYER!

Memory verse: "The word of the Lord came to David saying, 'You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you shall not build a house for My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight' (First Chronicles 22 vs 8).

READ: First Chronicles 22 vs 9  - 10:

22:9: Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. His name shall be Solomon, for I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

22:10: He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son, and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.

INTIMATION:

King David was a man described by God Himself as "a man after My own heart" (Acts 13 vs 22). He was worried that while he was dwelling in a beautiful palace of cedar, the Ark of the covenant of the Lord, which is a symbol of the presence of God, sat under tent curtains. David expressed his displeasure to Nathan the prophet. The prophet urged him to do all that is in his heart. But God refused that David should build a temple for Him. God told David that his job was to unify and lead Israel and to destroy its enemies. This huge task would require David to shed a great deal of blood. God did not want His temple built by a warrior. 

However, God told David that his son Solomon will undertake the task of building a temple for Him instead. David graciously accepted this "no" from God. David made the plans and collected the materials so that his son Solomon could begin work on the temple as soon as he became king. He was not jealous of the fact that his son would have the honor of building God's temple, but instead made preparations for him to carry out his task. David responded to God's refusal with deep humility, not resentment. He accepted his part in God’s plan and did not try to go beyond it. 

David went and sat before the Lord and humbled himself in prayer, praising God, recognizing God's blessings and accepting God's decision, promises, and commands. He recognized that God is the true king (See First Chronicles 17 vs 16 - 20).

David thought well, his request was good, but God said no. This does not mean that God rejected David. In fact, God was planning to do something even greater in David’s life than allowing him the privilege of building the temple. Sometimes God says no to our plans for His own reasons, and purposes. When He does, we should utilize other opportunities He gives us. 

It’s noteworthy that although God turned down David’s request, He promised to continue the dynasty of David forever. David’s earthly dynasty ended four centuries later, but Jesus Christ, a direct descendant of David, was the ultimate fulfillment of this promise (Acts 2 vs 22 - 36). Christ will reign for eternity—now in His spiritual kingdom, and in heaven, and later, on earth, in the New Jerusalem (Luke 1 vs 30 - 33; Revelation 21).

You may have sometimes prayed with good intentions, only to have God say no to your request. This is God’s way of directing you to a greater purpose in your life. Accepting God’s ‘no’ requires as great a faith as carrying out His yes. God has done many things in David’s life, and He plans to do even more! This is so in the life of some of us. Like David, we should humble ourselves and give glory to God, saying, “O LORD, there is none like You.” 

Sometimes we are quick to make requests to God and to tell Him of our troubles, but, like David, we need to emphasize these other dimensions of prayer, which helps us deepen our spiritual life; we should take time to praise God, to count His blessings, and to affirm our commitment to do what He has already said to do.

Similarly, we should take steps now to prepare the way for our children to find and fulfill  God's purpose. When they are grown to start making their own decisions, you would have helped them with the proper tools, showing them how to pray and study God's Word, the difference between right and wrong, and the importance of church involvement.

Prayer: Abba Father, You are my all in all. Whatever You cannot give me, let me never have it. Whatever You cannot do for me, let it remain undone forever. Endue me with a humble spirit; to acknowledge, obey and trust in You at all times, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING!

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

TUESDAY AUGUST 03, 2021.

SUBJECT : BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING!

Memory verse: "For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden. And her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness will be found in It, thanksgiving and the voice of melody." (Isaiah 51 vs 3.)

READ: Jeremiah 30 vs 19 - 20:

30:19: Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 

30:20: Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before Me; and I will punish all who oppress them.

 

INTIMATION:

Giving thanks in everything is the Will of God in Christ for the believer. It is for the believers’ good and benefit. In it we access God’s many blessings. 

1. Thanksgiving and praise give us direct access to God. Psalm 100 vs 4 gives these familiar words "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name." 

The gate leads into His courts, the courts lead into His presence. You get through the gates with thanksgiving, and enter courts with praise, then you are right there before Him. In the presence of God there is fullness of joy—joy unspeakable. (Psalm 16 vs 11). Joy and gladness are established in and around us as we announce with melodious voices. 

2. Thanksgiving preserves our blessings, as they abound through many thanksgiving to God (Second Corinthians 9 vs 12). This means acknowledging God for who He is—the Almighty Creator of the universe who alone is perfect and who reaches down to sinful mankind with perfect love, and has given us all things to enjoy (First Timothy 6 vs 17).

3. Thanksgiving judges God faithful, and by that reminds Him of what remains. We request from Him of our desires through thanksgiving, and receives strength for accomplishment of our desires. (Philippians 4 vs 6; Hebrews 11 vs 11).

4. Thanksgiving multiplies our blessings. In Matthew 15 vs 33 - 37, Jesus gave thanks and consequently fed four thousand people with seven loaves and a few little fish. Also in John 6 vs 1 - 11, Jesus gave thanks and fed five thousand people with five loaves and two fish. Even the believers are multiplied and glorified, ensuring our increase, sustenance, and establishment (Jeremiah 30 vs 19 - 20).

5. Thanksgiving keeps the anointing of the Holy Spirit alive in our life, and working, ensuring that we are empowered to be rooted, built up in Him, and established in faith and abounding in it (Psalm 92 vs 10 - 11; Colossians 2 vs 7).

6. Thanksgiving moves God to punish and silence our enemies and oppressors, that our desires on them are not only heard by us, but also seen with our own eyes (Psalm 92 vs 11; Jeremiah 30 vs 20).

Thanksgiving therefore, is our means of ensuring our multiplication, establishment, accomplishment, and reminding God of our outstanding petitions. It is our weapon of offense against our enemies. In it believers obtain good reports.

Prayer: Abba Father, You are ever faithful, abounding in mercy, and kindness. Thanking You for who You are, what You have done, what You are doing, and what You are yet to do engenders our continual receiving from You. Engrace me with the heart of gratitude that I may be thankful to You in everything according to Your Will, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.

LESSONS FROM OUR LORD’S PRAYER!

 EVERYDAY IN THE WORD!

MONDAY AUGUST 02, 2021.

SUBJECT : LESSONS FROM OUR LORD’S PRAYER!

Memory verse: "And the Lord will deliver me from the evil work and preserve me for heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!" (Second Timothy 4 vs 18.)

READ: Matthew 6 vs 9 - 13:

6:9: In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

6:10: Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

6:11: Give us this day our daily bread. 

6:12: And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

6:13: And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 

INTIMATION:

Jesus thought His disciples how to pray. This is often called the Lord's Prayer because Jesus gave it to them as a model for them (and us) to keep in mind as we pray. Our prayers should be modeled in that pattern. Jesus provided a pattern to be imitated as well as duplicated. We should praise God, pray for His work in the world, pray for our daily needs, and pray for help in our daily struggles.

The phrase "Our Father in heaven" indicates that God is not only majestic and Holy, dwelling in His eternal place—heaven, but also personal and loving—our Father. The first line of the prayer is a statement of praise and a commitment to hallow, or honor, God's Holy name. Praise is to be ascribed to God in respect of His glory; the exhibition of His character and operations. We honor God's name by being careful to use it respectfully. If we use God’s Name lightly, we aren’t remembering God’s holiness. 

The phrase "Your kingdom come" is a reference to God's spiritual reign to be heralded by the coming of Christ. God's kingdom was announced in the covenant with Abraham; “...in You all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12 vs 3). The kingdom  is present in Christ's reign in believers' hearts; “...For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17 vs 21), and will be complete when all evil is destroyed and God establishes the new heaven and earth (Revelation 21 vs 1). The kingdom of God begins with the work of God’s Spirit in people’s lives and in our relationships.

When we pray "Your will be done" we are not resigning ourselves to fate, but praying that God's perfect purpose will be accomplished in this world as well as the next. And how does God accomplish His purpose on earth? He does it largely through people willing to obey Him. This part of prayer allows us to offer ourselves as doers of God’s purposes or Will, asking Him to guide, lead, and give us the means to accomplish His purposes. Consequently, the lines of prayer hereafter are geared toward His means, guidance, and leading to accomplish His purposes.

When we pray "Give us this day our daily bread" we are acknowledging that God is our sustainer and provider. It is a misconception to think that we provide for our needs ourselves. We must trust God daily to provide what He knows we need, “...For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him” (Matthew 5 vs 8), and promises to provide those needs to enable us serve His predetermined purposes.

God’s thoughts toward us is of peace, and not of evil (Jeremiah 29 vs 11). God doesn't lead us into temptations, but sometimes He allows us to be tested by them in preparing us for His predestined services. He knows the future, and His plans for us are good and full of hope. As disciples, we should pray to be delivered from these trying times and for deliverance from Satan and his deceit. 

All Christians struggle with temptation. Sometimes it is so subtle that we don't even realize what is happening to us. God has promised that He won't allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear; “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (First Corinthians 10 vs 13). 

We will always ask God to help us recognize temptation and to give us strength to overcome it and choose God's way instead. As long as God, who knows the future, provides our agenda, and goes with us as our leader, to fulfill His mission, we can have boundless hope. 

Prayer: Abba Father, You are my Loving Father, Faithful Companion, and Sacrificial Savior. Outside of You I am worthless. Endue me with the excellent spirit of follower-ship and obedience to You in all things, all the days of my life, in Jesus’ Name I have prayed, Amen.
